The Malawi College of Accountancy (MCA) has engaged stakeholders from the banking and finance sector in a curriculum review process for one of its flagship degree programmes, the Bachelor of Banking and Financial Services Management (BBFSM).
Speaking during the engagement on Thursday in Blantyre, MCA Principal Christina Chithila said the consultation aims to ensure that the programme remains relevant to the ever-changing financial services industry.
The Principal said the college values industry input in shaping its academic programmes so that graduates are equipped with practical knowledge and skills that meet market demands.
“Our aim is to bridge the gap between theory and industry practice. If we only focus on theoretical training, graduates may not fully meet the expectations of the job market. That is why we involve industry players to help align our programmes with what is happening in the sector,” she said.
In her remarks, Manager of Operations at the Deposit Insurance Corporation, Lowina Mwasigala, hailed MCA for the initiative, describing the engagement as crucial for strengthening the country’s financial sector.
Mwasigala said incorporating stakeholder input in academic programmes will help produce highly skilled graduates who can effectively contribute to the growth of the financial services industry.
The engagement was also attended by the MCA Registrar, Campus Directors and lecturers. ?>
