In a bid to promote mental health awareness among musicians in Malawi, the Musicians Union of Malawi (MUM) has partnered with Malawi College of Accountancy (MCA) to equip musicians with essential knowledge and skills aimed at improving their wellbeing and personal development.

Through the initiative, funded by the Copyright Fund and implemented in partnership with MCA, musicians from all regions of the country have received training in Business Management, Financial Management, and Mental Health Awareness.

Speaking during one of the training sessions held on Friday, May 22 in Blantyre, MUM Southern Region Chapter Secretary, Dennis Kalimbe emphasized the importance of mental health awareness within the music industry, noting that the country has lost several musicians to alcohol and drug abuse.

MUM President, Vita Chirwa said similar trainings have also been conducted in Lilongwe, Mzuzu, and Balaka. He further pledged continued support through more trainings in the future and encouraged musicians to make good use of the opportunity.

In his remarks, MCA Registrar, Yotamu Machila commended the strong partnership between MCA and MUM. He also highlighted the various academic programmes offered at MCA and encouraged musicians to enrol, stressing that talent and education should go hand in hand.

“I urge you to enrol in any of these programmes, which are offered under different modes of study including Weekday, Weekend, and ODeL,” he said.
