MCA Students Join National HIV Prevention Initiative

Eight students from the Malawi College of Accountancy (MCA) have been trained as ambassadors for HIV prevention and health promotion, following a two-day orientation programme aimed at strengthening health awareness among young people.
The orientation, held on August 29 and 30 at the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS), was organised by the Malawi Network of AIDS Service Organisations (MANASO) in collaboration with the Malawi AIDS Commission.
The programme exposed the students to key issues surrounding HIV prevention, health promotion and the role of young people in championing healthier communities.
Speaking after the orientation, MCA Student Union Social Welfare Director, Bahat Mike Mwase, who was among the participants, described the orientation as informative, interactive and an important opportunity for students to take an active role in promoting health on campus.
Mwase said the students were ready to turn the knowledge gained into practical initiatives that would benefit the wider MCA community.
“We are not only taking the knowledge back to MCA; we are taking the responsibility with us. We would like to translate what we have learned into practical initiatives that can strengthen HIV prevention, health awareness and overall student wellness on our campus,” he said.
The initiative comes as part of efforts to empower young people with accurate health information and encourage them to take an active role in HIV prevention.
Through the newly trained student ambassadors, MCA is expected to strengthen peer-led health awareness activities while fostering a more informed and supportive campus environment.
